Spider Silk Actuator
Our part takes as input the PoPS signal generated by rhamnose, and the output is spider silk protein. This is a spider silk generating device that produces a hexamer of spider silk protein codon optimized for expression in E. coli. The DNA of the device is made up of Fos and Jun linked to the front and back of the spider silk hexamer "spilk 7.0." Fos and Jun are proteins with leucine zippers that form heterodimers in solution. The idea is that our E. coli cell will produce the hexamers of spider silk and have them aggregate together in very long chains bound together by Fos and Jun interactions.
